I was born in Mexico and immigrated to the United States at a young age, I have spent the majority of my life in Long Beach, where I attended CSULB and received an undergraduate degree in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I want to become a school counselor to advocate for students of color and students from underprivileged backgrounds and work towards systemic changes that will make education accessible and equitable for all students.

"You are always a student, never a master. You have to keep moving forward." Conrad Hall
I grew up in Orange County, CA. Lived in almost every city in the OC but settled in Garden Grove. For a little over three years now, I have worked directly with students in K-12 and have taken a personal interest in each and every one of my students. Through direct engagement and conferences, I am more certain than ever that I want to pursue a career in school counseling. As a school counselor, I will do my best to ensure equal access and success among students in education. As counselors, our position calls for us to improve the lives of our students by guiding them through academic performance and psychosocial competency. School counselors should be the source of support that students can seek out and aid students in navigating their academic trajectories. My goal is to be more than a mandatory ten-minute session as I provide a safe space for all students to disclose fears and concerns. I hope that I can use the perspective I have gained through past experiences and education to make a positive impact in the lives of my students.

I grew up in South-Central Los Angeles, but was bussed out to different schools around Los Angeles County. I love working with teenagers, and I am lucky to have served them for over 12 years as a high school English teacher all over the country. However, I feel I will better meet their academic, career, and social needs as a high school counselor. A work-life balance will be important in such a demanding career, so I plan to continue doing the things I love for fun, including going to a lot of concerts and spending time with my family.

I was born in Korea, raised in Japan, and schooled in America. I have been working with youth my whole adult life and came to believe that education is imperative to their success and to a better world, which is why I decided to pursue school counseling as my vocation. During my free time, I like to play guitar, play PC games, watch football (go Rams!), or just do nothing.

B.A. in Psychology, Counseling Concentration
I was raised in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago and moved to Southern California at the start of my freshman year at APU. I have always been super passionate about youth development and found myself working with junior high and high school students since I was in high school myself. I work at a group home for boys on probation and spend as much time there as I can when I'm not at school. A random fact about me is that I have played classical piano since the age of 4. Other than that, my interests vary as long as my friends and family are involved. I love going to concerts of all genres, watching musicals, movies, documentaries, etc. As of now, my plan is to move back to Chicago upon receiving my masters.

As an artist, I'm always striving to understand the world, and my place in it, a little better. I've been lucky to have enjoyed a varied work experience from teaching art in elementary school to corporate training for a bookstore chain, from working with families in crisis to completing three AmeriCorps terms, I've seen a lot. I've learned that I love putting people in touch with the information and resources they need to make smart decisions leading to healthy and happy lives. And that is what's at the core of my decision to pursue school counseling, getting the opportunity to help students make decisions that will launch them towards a successful future.

Hello stakeholders,
My name is Joshua Luevano and I am a first year graduate student in the School Counseling Program at CSULB. As you may have noticed, I used the term stakeholders because we all have a stake in our youth's education. Educators, family members, community members, friends, and students themselves impact the quality of education they receive. During my time as an AVID tutor, a home-teacher, and a substitute teacher, I realized the best way to impact students is by being a school counselor. I chose to pursue a career in school counseling because I strongly believe that EVERY student deserves the same opportunity to flourish and succeed. I look forward to these next two years and cannot wait to get into a school and be the social change agent students need

I like to think of myself as a caring and intelligent woman who enjoys spending time with her family and friends. My family and friends are extremely important to me because they have always provided me with the love and support necessary to help me grow into who I am today. I believe everyone in life deserves someone's support and that is why I want to become a school counselor. Many students don't have vital support systems in place and I want to provide them with what they need to achieve their full potential and their goals in life.

I was born in Mexico, my family immigrated to the United States and settled in Coachella, California. I am a first-generation college student. In 2013, I completed my undergraduate degrees at University of California, Irvine(UCI). While attending UCI, I worked at Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) and California State Summer School for Math and Science (COSMOS), two programs that provide support to high school students. After receiving my bachelor's degrees, I worked with low-income and first generation college students at the Upward Bound program for almost 3 years. My experiences at Upward Bound inspired me to become a school counselor and continue to support underrepresented students and communities.
