In 2009, Rachael Hamlet graduated from George Washington Preparatory High School in South Central Los Angeles and immediately began her matriculation at CSULB. While attending The Beach for her undergraduate degree, Rachael was extremely involved on campus. She was the president of the African Student Union, a student worker in Student Life and Development office and the Leadership Resource Center, and completed hundreds of volunteer hours with numerous departments on campus, including University Outreach and School Relations. After learning about the Ghanaian symbol Sankofa, whose name best translates to it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind, Rachael realized the great importance of revisiting her roots and she quickly learned how to use that knowledge to fuel her passionate future. As a School Counseling graduate student, she is learning how to become the change that she wishes to in the education system by ensuring that every student is afforded the same opportunity to succeed. Rachael hopes to not only advocate for her students, but also teach them how to effectively advocate for themselves. Currently working as a college adviser for the Long Beach Regional California Student Opportunity and Access Program, Rachael plans on becoming a school counselor, a college counselor, or a Pupil Service and Attendance counselor within the Greater Los Angeles area.

B.A. Humanities and Communication: Concentration in Practical and Professional Ethics
My name is Alejandra Vega and I am from Woodlake, CA. I grew up with parents that worked as farm workers for a living. Not only did I learn about hard work, but I learned to value my education. Upon graduating high school, I began and completed my undergrad at Cal State, Monterey Bay with a degree in Humanities and Communication with a concentration in Practical and Professional Ethics. It was there where I began to learn about the inequities in education, especially in underserved communities like my own. I was fueled; my passion became to serve communities in any which way possible. I decided that I knew I could make an impact in students' lives if given the opportunity. I aspire to be an educator that will bring awareness and knowledge to as many students I can.
My hobbies include: reading, writing, yoga, visiting museums, listening to music and dancing, spending time with family and trying tacos from as many different places as possible.

"No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old, familiar pillow." ~Lin Yutang
I grew up in Long Beach, California, and I have lived in Sevilla (Spain), Trento, Napoli, and Roma (Italy). In my past life, I wanted to be a diplomat for the European Union. I traveled throughout Greece, Italy, Spain, France, Ireland, and England, in addition to Mexico, Costa Rica, and Japan. I use to say that travel defined me, but now I would say that it is those I love that define me. I am happily married to the love of my life, with a beautiful baby girl, a baby on the way, and a cute teddy bear of a dog, owner of a thriving business, and now, finally, pursuing my Masters in School Counseling after years of soul searching to find my passion. I enjoy my time at home with my family, my friends, my husband, my baby, and my puppy, trying to enjoy every moment like its my last. I have the most amazing, supportive people in my life. I count my blessings each day for such good fortune. I want to change the world...I want to leave my mark- not for the sake of fame, but for the sake of the future.

I was born and raised in Anaheim, California. At Anaheim High School, I was given a great opportunity to be a part of the Puente program, a University of California-funded college enrichment program. This program provided me with great resources and support that helped me get into UC San Diego. Inspired by Puente’s advisors and counselors, my passion for education and helping others grew during my undergraduate career. At UC San Diego, I had the chance to explore many aspects of education such as tutoring, mentoring, and academic counseling. One of the most rewarding experiences was being an intern for the college advisor. My role as an intern connected me with senior students during the college application process. I was deeply touched by these students. These defining moments contributed to my decision to become a school counselor. Being in the School Counseling program at CSULB has been so eye-opening. Through this program, I hope to provide to my future students what I have received from my educational career.

My career prospect is to become a School Counselor either in the public school system or in the Juvenile Corrections system. I aspire to assist students to achieve their goals, whatever that may be. During my “me time” I like to exercise especially running (was averaging 5 miles a little under 50 minutes before I sprained my ankle). I also enjoy reading but find it difficult to get my hands on a good book that will catch my interest. And my ultimate past time is staying home watching a good movie in my pajamas all day.
