Sociology, B.A. with a minor in Applied Psychology and Education - University of California, Santa Barbara
My motto in life is "Fasten your seatbelt and ride the yolocoaster". After 3-5 years gaining experience as a school counselor, my plan is to to acquire a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) and test the efficacy of the implementation of a career development course in the high school level though my dissertation (derived from my thesis). My ultimate goal in life is to improve high school (especially in low socioeconomic areas) curriculum by providing high school students with a career development course so they are better prepared in school-to-work and career advancement out of high school. My ideal career is to become a professor in a school counseling program and teach career development and education to prospective school counselors. Oh, I also want to live in an RV for a year... preferably in a location where there's 24 hour fitness where I'll shower and use the bathroom and also a Costco where I can free sample it up.

Transferred to CSULA from LA City College.
Majored in Psychology.
Born and raised in Central Los Angeles, raised by two wonderful parents who immigrated to the United States when they were teenagers, I am able to say that I have the most supportive family ever. I am so grateful to have such positive people around me who will encourage me to follow my dreams. Other than being with family and friends, I enjoy listening to music, going to concerts, hiking, eating, and Drake :]
My goal is to become a school counselor and work somewhere close to home so that I can give back to the community i was raised in. I am interested in mental health and youth services. Having attended a community college, I have considered working in a community college, with goals of removing the negative stigma that is associated with community college. Overall, I want my students to be able to say that they had a great counselor who was able to support and help them reach their goals.

Undergrad Education:
CSULB - BA in English Education and Comparative World Literature
CSULB - Single Subject Credential in English
As an immigrant to this country, my passion for education knows no limits as I know firsthand the positive impact it can have on someone's life trajectory. For that reason, my lifelong goal is to be an advocate for underserved and unrepresented student populations. My background as an English teacher and current work in college access and success have definitely provided me with a unique perspective that I plan to utilize in my future career endeavors for the benefit of students at either the secondary or postsecondary setting. On a personal level, I think one word to describe me is nerdy. I love to learn and read... and sleep--I really, really, like to sleep. (Currently reading: Give and Take: A Revolutionary Approach to Success by Adam Grant--very good!)

My name is Jackie Villalpando and I was born and raised in Inglewood, California. I graduated from CSULB with a B.A. in Chican@ and Latin@ studies in 2012. In 2014, I held on tight to my Latin music obsession and became a certified Zumba instructor. Now, I am finalizing my last year in the MS school counseling program at CSULB. My ultimate goal in life is to positively impact, encourage and guide the lives of disadvantaged student populations and their families. With the infinite support of my family, friends, cohort, and educational role-models, I know I will do just that. An additional goal that I have is to apply to the Educational Leadership doctoral program at either LMU or CSULB and eventually serve my community as a school principal; after all, nothing is impossible.
Undergrad Education:
Cerritos College-AA in English
UCLA-BA double majored in English and Chicana/o Studies
I consider myself a Chicana who is passionate about helping others. Ever since I was in grade school, I always saw myself in the education field. But, it was not until I was at UCLA when I realized that I wanted to be a high school counselor and help students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Some of my interests in the educational field are to find different ways to increase parent involvement in education, help AB-540 students navigate higher educational institutes, and find a way to bring resources to underserved communities. During my free time, I really enjoy reading and writing poems. Currently my two favorite authors are Julia Alvarez and Michelle Alexander. Besides this, I love to hang out with my loved ones and eat desserts.
